A week until Valentine's Day, and I've finally crossed one item off of my list: a mailbox for the valentines my son will receive at his playgroup party next Tuesday. I was trying to wait until this tissue box was empty before I stole it, but that just didn't seem to be in the cards. I now have a pile of tissues just hanging out on my counter, lol.
I started with this Puff tissue box (no lotion, please) and then completely pulled it apart at its seams. You need two 12x12" sheets of paper to fully cover the long portions of the box. I laid it on top of the paper to draw some marks for the edges and also to trace the opening.
See? All traced out.
Then, I took some time to slice the opening into strips.
The strips then were folded over and secured.
Nice shot of the first piece with the opening done.
I repeated the tracing portion for the second sheet of 12x12" pattern paper in order to cover the other two long sides of the box. Then, I partially adhered the box back together.
At this point I realized two things: 1) I did not like seeing the brown of the box and so I covered the bottom & back of the inside of the box with a random piece of cardstock I had; and 2) the strips needed to be taped down so that they didn't accidentally release.
Isn't this much better with a piece of cardstock in it? Then I put the sides back together, measured and cut another pattern paper to cover, and inked the edged before applying them. Do not be afraid to use tape to keep the side together - it will be covered by the papers!
Last, I added a quick nametag, and it was done!
And this shows the sides. There was no way to get the box back to square on corners, exactly, and so it's not perfect. But who cares? My almost-2-year-old? Heck no.
