Last but not least Favorites of the Year

Suzabell aka Suzanne's favorite of the year.

This is one of my favorite lo's I've ever done. It is of my DS & DD (when they were sweet together).

I love this one because I love the pic of DD and it's my favorite style.

I love this one because I love pink and green together.

I love this one because I loved it when DS put the stockings on like boots.

Member Spotlight

Your Scrappy Jo member name?

Tigger. It’s my screen name all over the internet. My last name is Tygar, and for 31 years people have called me Tigger, so it was a natural choice when I first signed onto a message board years ago. I’m as identified with that as I am with Snarky Kitty, my avatar.

Your first name?

Tigger. ROFL. Sorry, couldn’t resist. Sandi is my first name, but I answer to Tigger.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am such a boring soul – let’s see. I have been married for 31 years (YES to the same guy!!) and we have lived in the same home since we’ve been married. It’s small but we LOVE it so much and I can’t imagine ever moving. We have no children. We wanted them, but cancer made the decision for us and we elected not to adopt. I am a dental office manager… going on 20 years now. As much as I complain, I really do love my job. I drive an ’07 Saturn Vue and I prefer Old Navy Jeans.

Ok. Now I’m struggling to come up with stuff… LOL!!!!!

Got a blog? Or website? You want to share.

My blog’s address is http://fadedrainbows.blogspot.com/ I probably don’t post as much as I should, but it’s not dead. I pretty much have the posting stuff down pat, but changing my music usually takes me about 30 minutes.

How did you get started in scrapbooking?

I was dragged kicking and screaming to a Creative Memories workshop. My friend/neighbor/hairdresser made me go with her. I brought 5 pictures with me, made 2 pages and never looked back.

How long have you been scrapbooking?

I think it’s been around 6 or 7 years now. Time flies!
What’s your favorite paper line?

I have to choose ONE? I’d say Basic Grey, it has been my mainstay for many years, but I do love me some Cosmo Cricket and My Minds Eye.
What product(s) are you addicted to right now?

Well, as most of you know I am a Tim Holtz fanati
c, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE his Idea-ology line – all the metal stuff… metal is my downfall.
I always use inks – Tim’s Distress Inks – if my fingers aren’t stained then I’m not happy.
There is a line of Prima flowers out that screamed my name so loud I got tiggers smilie! They are all distressy and grungy.
I could go on for 2 more pages so I’ll stop here.

What inspires you creatively?

Photos for the most part. I can’t scrap a photo unless it talks to me. I have been known to scrap photos that friends have taken just because they talk to me. (the photos, not the friends)
I do look at a lot of online galleries, the amount of talent out there is amazing.

What brought you to Scrappy Jo's?

I’ve been a member here since before Jo took it
over – Sherri (the previous owner) and I have been online friends for a long time and when she started her message board she invited me over. The transition was done very well – I applaud Sherri for finding someone like Jo!!!

How long have you been a member of Scrappy Jo's?

Egads. Now you’ve got me. Since before it started – how’s that? lol
What do you enjoy the most about Scrappy Jo's?

Oh that’s easy – the ladies here. I have made some incredible friends at this site. I don’t always have time to post a lot – or do the challenges… but I try to say hi every day and LOVE the QOTD’s and Suzanne’s trivia…. ;)

What is on your scrappy wish list?

Tim Holtz. No seriously. Tim Holtz.

What is something about you that we may not know?

I am such an open book – I have to think HARD about this one.
You guys already know that I am a hypo
chondriac germaphobe that is tiggers smilie of bowtie pasta, I have a cute left foot and an ugly right foot, I’m paranoid and shy, and obsessed with Tim Holtz, refuse to make left turns or eat poptarts, love wine and beer but not necessarily in that order.

After all that, what could you possibly not know? How about… I am seriously considering writing a book. It’s something that has been a dream of mine since high school, and I’m ho
ping to make it really happen this year.

Favorites of the Year

AshleyH aka Ashley

Here are my favorites.

The first one Life is perfect is from back in June. It's one of my favorite pics of my ds. Using Fancy Pants papers.

The next one was my first time using papers by KaiserCraft and I love them! The sketch was one of Suzanne's and I love the outcome.

Next was that awesome Blue Awning paper from K and Co. I would have never chosen it, but loved how it distressed. This was for the get messy challenge as well and was one of my first really distressed, flowery LOs and now I am in love with this style.

Last is My Drama Queen Laser Lady album. I used Doodlebug sugar coated cardstock for the cover and tons pf Prima Crystals and stickles. It was a big change to make something so girly. It was really fun to make.

Paper Cupcake

Originally designed by Leah Fung from Scrapbooks Etc and rewritten and modified by Jess Moyer

Materials and Tools:
Paper trimmer
Craft knife
Ruler
Pencil
2 double sided coordinating pieces of patterned paper
Dressmakers pins or hot glue
Foam (florist or regular craft foam)
Embroidery floss or tissue paper

Instuctions:
1. Cut the foam into a cylinder as tall and as wide as desired. In order to form the wrapper you will need a circle. The circle’s diameter must be slightly larger than the total of the heightx2 and the width of your cylinder. For example if the cylinder is 2 inches high and 2 inches wide the circle must be slightly bigger than 6 inches in diameter. This guide line means you won’t be restricted to one size cupcake. Fold the circle in half four times and then open it up into a circle again. There should be 16 creases in the paper. More folds may be desired.
2. Create an accordion fold in the cupcake wrapper by folding from one crease to another. When the folding is done place the foam cylinder in the middle of the folded circle. Bend the side of the wrapper to fit around the cupcake. This can be made slightly easier if you trace around the cylinder gently with a craft knife. To attach the paper to the foam you may use hot glue only with florist foam. If using other craft foam, the dressmakers pins are recommended because the hot glue will melt the foam.
3. Once the wrapper is attached, add either ribbon or a strip of paper around the top of the foam cylinder to hide it from view on the finished cupcake. Now you’re ready to attach the icing. The icing is made with thin strips of paper. The exact width and length can vary. I used ¼ inch wide by 2 inch long strips. Curl these around a pencil. To give it a more varied appearance curl some with the first pattern of the paper facing up and the rest with the second pattern of the paper facing up. Put these curls into the cupcake base with straight pins. Leah used much long and bigger curls (3/8 wide by 12 long).
4. You can decorate the top of the cupcake in many ways. I decided to make a candle. I used the same paper as the wrapper and cut a rectangle. The height and width will vary depending on the size of your cupcake but it should be much longer than it is wide. Apply some adhesive all along one long side and then with the help of the pencil curl the rectangle into a tube. To create the flame, use either some tissue paper or embroidery floss. Put adhesive along the inside top of the candle then insert the flame material. The embroidery floss can wrapped a few times around two fingers then cut only one end. Put the cut end into the top of the candle.

Let me know if you have any questions or need some clarification.

Favorites of the Year

convintojm aka Jess's favorites:

I love this card because it was a fun to work with so many paper piecing creations all at once.

I love this LO because of the pictures. I also really liked it because I didn't use the school colors but instead her favorite colors so it feels more personal.

I love this project because it was fun to create something that will be used over and over.

I really like this because I created it to show all the great times the members of Pilot Me had mentoring the kids of New Brunswick over the past year.

Awesome new sketches from Pagemaps.com

Favorites of the Year

Scrapaddict21 aka Renee

Here are some of my faves:

I love this one because I went out of the box and created my own tree.

I love this layout because I'm in love with Sassafras Lass, and I created it but cutting out the elements of the paper. It reminds me of really walking through a forest.

This card really sticks out to me. It is really simple, but it's inspiration comes from the song "the twelve days of Christmas" ie.. A partridge in a Pear Tree

I also love this Sassafras Lass Card. It was my first attempt at a pop up card. I also love the little button cloud.
